Take Back Your Vitality!

Beginning at around thirty years of age, testosterone production in men decreases as a result of many causes. The decline in testosterone bioavailability, or “free testosterone” causes the body’s testosterone receptor cells to malfunction and no longer respond to the testosterone signals. Testosterone deficiency can negatively impact nearly every cell in the body and lead to the development of several major degenerative diseases.

Services for Men

  • Biological testosterone pellets with results lasting approximately 6 months.
  • This will include follow-up office visits to check hormone levels as well as other lab values that may contribute to andropause in the male population.

Andropause and Low Testosterone

Women experience hormone level declines when they go through menopause. This experience for men is known as andropause, or low T (and some call it “man-opause”). The difference for men is their hormone changes aren’t as sudden as a woman’s decline during menopause. Men usually experience lower dips in their energy levels and stamina than women. Low testosterone levels can also be attributed to the synthetic chemicals and environmental toxins that are found in our plastics, modified foods, pesticides, and pollutants. This may be one reason that some men are now beginning to experience low T in their 30s.

Symptoms of Low Testosterone

Subtle effects of low T can show up as simply poor motivation or gradual weight gain – but can be more extreme in the form of anxiety, profound depression, and/or loss of sex drive.

Symptoms of low testosterone in men related to aging include:

  • Fatigue and low energy
  • Difficulty sleeping
  • Depression and/or irritability
  • Weakness
  • Increased belly fat
  • Reduced libido
  • Erectile dysfunction
  • Impaired memory
  • Diminished work performance

Additionally, testosterone can be an indicator of your heart health with low levels being linked to an increased risk of dying from heart disease in men. Healthier heart profiles generally include ideal levels of testosterone. Low testosterone can also be a risk marker for diabetes and osteoporosis.

Low T and Bioidentical Hormone Therapy

Men with unnaturally low levels of testosterone can benefit from bioidentical hormone therapy. Restoring testosterone to the optimum level will energize you and bring back the strength and vigor to protect against health risks. Decreased body fat, better cognitive function and memory, increased libido, and increase in muscle strength are benefits of bioidentical hormone therapy for men.

Benefits of bioidentical hormone therapy for men:

  • Better sleep
  • Improved sex drive and sexual performance
  • Enhanced fat loss and muscle tone
  • Improvement in mood, memory, and concentration
  • Increased energy levels
  • Increases muscle mass and strength
  • Decreased body pain
  • Improved skin and complexion

Bioidentical hormones are hormones made from 100% natural materials such as soy and yams. They have an identical molecular structure to the hormones that your body produces, making them safe and indistinguishable from your real hormones. This natural approach to hormone replacement therapy is something that men and women can both benefit from.

Bioidentical hormone therapy is also beneficial for men experiencing effects of low testosterone. DHEA and HGH (human grown hormone) levels can also be checked and balanced with bioidentical hormone therapy. Men who start with hormone therapy at The Rejuvenative Medical Center have reported an increase libido and muscle growth, improved sleep patterns, an increase in the capacity to exercise, and improved mood and energy levels.

Bioidentical Hormone Replacement Therapy

Bioidentical hormones are natural hormones with the same molecular structure as the hormones made by your body. Typical hormone replacement uses synthetic hormones, which are foreign to the body and can have unpleasant side effects or possibly not provide enough hormones needed during menopause.

How Does it Work?

Bioidentical hormone therapy begins with lab work to determine your body’s unique hormone levels. Then, a mixture of hormones that are targeted to your body’s specific needs is made into a compound in the form of a cream, gel, injection, pellet or capsule. Transdermal, capsule, and injectable forms seem to be best because they bypass the liver and gastrointestinal system. However, the consequence is a rapid increase and rapid decrease in testosterone causing a rollercoaster of side effects as the medication begins to work and stops working before your next dose.

In the beginning of your therapy, you will need frequent testing to check that each hormone component is in proper balance. Once balance is restored, you will only need another treatment in 4-6 months depending on own body’s ability to absorb the pellets. You will normally see improvement within the first two to three weeks of therapy, but it may take up to eight weeks to feel the full effect. We want to achieve balance with the lowest dose of each hormone as also recommended by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The bioidentical hormone therapy program combines hormone replacement with dietary and lifestyle recommendations.

One of the most exciting areas of research in medicine involves making the most of the initial healing stages: inflammation and an increase in cells, or cell proliferation. Regenerative medicine uses your body’s natural healing resources to help regrow, repair, or replace damaged or diseased cells, organs or tissues. The four main types of regenerative therapy are prolotherapy, platelet-rich plasma (PRP), cartilage regeneration, and stem cell therapies.

Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is the persistent inability to achieve or maintain an erection sufficient for satisfactory sexual performance.

The male sexual response cycle could be divided into its three component parts: libido (desire), erectile function, sexual activity. All kinds of factors such as psychological factors, surgery and trauma, vascular diseases, neurological factors, etc. can cause ED as long as they affect any part of the sexual response cycle. In addition, there are various implicated risk factors for SD in men such as altered lifestyle, stressful living conditions, various chronic diseases, diverse environmental pollutants and several drug side effects.

ED often involves a combination of vascular, neurological, endocrinological, and psychological factors, and so the condition is not limited to elderly men. Other risk factors such as cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, and smoking have been strongly associated with an increased prevalence of ED.

Normally, the blood supply to the penis originates predominantly from the internal pudendal artery, which branches into the penile artery. The penile artery then branches into the cavernous arteries. The cavernous artery enters the cavernous body and subsequently divides into many branches called the helicine arteries, which open into the cavernous sinuses. Blood in the cavernous sinuses is drained by the subtunical veins that form the venous plexuses just beneath the tunica albuginea and then returns to the circulation via 3 sets of veins; the superficial, intermediate and deep veins.

In patients with erectile dysfunction, the main issue is insufficient blood flow to the penis. Blood flow is cut off or inadequate due to insufficient opening inside the vessel to allow more blood flow due to plaque build up. This is caused by a variety of factors listed above.

  1. Medications
    1. A class of agents known as type-5 phosphodiesterase (PDE5) inhibitors have become the first-line therapy for ED, as recommended by the American Urological Association (AUA) and the European Association of Urology (EAU). These include oral medications such as Phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitors: Sildenafil (Viagra), tadalafil (Cialis), vardenafil (Levitra), and avanafil (Stendra).
    2. The 3 most commonly used medications for injection therapy are Trimix, Bimix, and papaverine. Most men begin injection therapy with Trimix, which is a mixture of 3 ingredients: alprostadil, phentolamine, and papaverine. These ingredients work by relaxing the smooth muscle and opening the blood vessels in your penis, causing an erection.  Must be stored in the refrigerator. Side effects reported were pain, priapism, bruising, and curvature or the penis.
  2. Vacuum-Constriction Devices
  3. Prosthetic Implants
  4. Intraurethral Suppositories
  5. Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Therapy

Safe and Effective Bioidentical Pellet Therapy
for Men

Bioidentical Pellet Therapy offers many benefits to men over traditional Hormone Replacement Therapies. Bioidentical Pellet Therapy uses hormones that are bioidentical, this means the hormones are the exact same molecular structure as the naturally occurring human hormones. Bioidentical hormones are found in nature and are derived from plants. This implies that Bioidentical Pellet Therapy uses hormones that are more natural than those often prescribed by conventional physicians. In addition, bioidentical pellet therapy offers a convenience benefit as the pellets remain in the body and release a steady state of hormones that the body requires. In comparison other hormone replacement therapy options can be inconsistent in their delivery resulting in a roller coaster effect in many men.

What You Need to Know About HRT

Is it effective?
Research shows that testosterone implants are effective in treating symptoms in both men. These implants are placed under the skin and consistently release small, physiologic doses of hormones, providing optimal therapy typically without side effects.

What are pellets made of?
Pellets, also referred to as implants, are composed of bio-identical hormones, that is, hormones identical to those our body produces, such as testosterone or estrogen. These hormones are derived from natural plants and are compressed into tiny solid cylinders, larger than a grain of rice but smaller than a ‘Tic Tac.’ Most pellets in the U.S. are produced by compounding pharmacists and delivered in sterile glass vials.

How are pellets different from other hormone therapies?
Pellets are favored because they provide steady, healthy levels of hormones for 4-5 months in men, avoiding the hormonal fluctuations seen with other delivery methods. This stability is crucial for optimal health and disease prevention. Pellets do not increase the risk of blood clots, unlike conventional or synthetic hormone replacement therapy.

In comparison to traditional hormone replacement therapy, pellets have been found superior for relieving menopausal symptoms, maintaining bone density, restoring sleep patterns, and enhancing sex drive, libido, sexual response, and performance. Testosterone delivered via pellet implants has been utilized to treat migraines and menstrual headaches and improve urinary and sexual health. Both men can benefit from increased energy, improved mood, reduced anxiety, and enhanced memory and concentration from testosterone delivered by pellet implants.

Pellets have proven highly successful even for patients who have not responded well to other hormone therapies. The convenience of pellet implants is unparalleled among hormone delivery methods. They have been in use in both men since the late 1930s, and substantial data supports their effectiveness. Bio-identical progesterone has not been found to increase the risk of breast cancer like synthetic progestins.

When will I feel results?
After the insertion of pellets, patients may start noticing improvements within 24-48 hours, although for some, it may take 10-14 days. Balanced diet, exercise, and stress management are all essential for optimal health and the effectiveness of the testosterone implant.

How long will the pellets last?
Pellets generally last 4-5 months in men and do not need to be removed as they dissolve on their own. Not all pellets are created equal, and their efficacy may vary.

How much does this therapy cost?
The cost of pellet insertion varies based on the dose and the number of pellets needed. Men typically require larger doses of testosterone than women and thus may incur a higher cost. The procedure may not be covered by most insurance companies, but pellets often prove cost-effective when compared to the cost of treating the individual symptoms of hormone decline.

What side-effects can I expect?
Allergic reactions to implants are extremely rare, often characterized by a localized area of redness and itching at the implant site. Many patients with such reactions have low cortisol levels and may be recommended cortisol treatment. If itching is bothersome, 25-50 mg of Benadryl may be beneficial.

Can change the trajectory of your intimate health?

Yes! Regenerative Medicine is focused on developing and applying new treatments to heal tissues and organs and restore function lost due to aging, disease, damage or defects.

When injured or invaded by disease, our bodies have the innate response to heal and defend. The field of regenerative medicine focuses on restoring structure and function of damaged tissues and organs. Regenerative medicine goes beyond disease management to search for and discover therapies that support the body in repairing, regenerating and restoring itself to a state of well-being.

Meet Owner and Nurse Practitioner, Sharyn L. Cass

Sharyn L. Cass, ANP-C is an Adult Medicine Nurse Practitioner in Hamburg, NY. Ms. Cass has over 15 years of experience in the healthcare field.

“My ultimate goal in healthcare is to promote confidence, personal growth, and foster intimacy and love in relationships. Suffering from urinary incontinence, sexual displeasure, and erectile dysfunction (ED) is frustrating, embarrassing and disempowering for a great many of people who experience it. Who do men and women turn to when previous treatments do not work or are not available? Who can men and women speak to when they are embarrassed to discuss the matter with another medical provider? In my experience during my healthcare career, sexual issues that are brought to a patient’s medical provider are solved with a referral to GYN or urology or given medications and, still, their issues are unmet. Who can you turn to? Me. My treatments work. I focus on the entire human being. I give 110% care to all my patients, because EVERYONE deserves a life lived with joy, confidence, and happiness.”
